Tulsa Trio Net Double Figures in 71-64 Loss to UTEP
Tulsa had three players score in double digits, but it wasn't enough as the Golden Hurricane dropped a 71-64 decision to UTEP on Wednesday night at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. TU fell to 5-9 on the season and 0-1 in Conference USA, while the Miners moved to 13-1 overall and 1-0 in the league.


The Hurricane, which has a 7-12 overall record and a 2-4 mark in C-USA, averages 62.9 points per game and holds opponents to a 62.5 per game average. TU is led by Taleya Mayberry with 18.7 points per game and a team-high 78 assists and 49 steals.  Kelsee Grovey nets 9.7 points per game, Tiffani Couisnard averages 8.8 points per game, a team-best 8.8 rebounds per game and has a team-leading 20 blocks, and Loren McDaniel adds 6.6 points and 8.0 rebounds per contest.

UTEP has a 16-2 record and a 4-1 ledger in Conference USA play. The Miners average 68.2 points per contest while foes average 55.9 points per game. Kayla Thornton paces the UTEP squad averaging 15.1 points per contest, and is second on the squad in rebounding with 8.3 boards per game. Anete Steinberga is second in scoring with 14.1 points per game, while Chrishauna Parker is third with a 10.4 points per game average and leads UTEP in rebounding with 8.5 rebounds per game. Parker also leads UTEP in assists averaging 4.06 assists per game.

This will be the 30th meeting between the two teams, as the Miners have a 19-10 advantage in the all-time series.  UTEP has won the last 13 meetings, and 16 of the last 19. The Miners won the earlier meeting between the two teams, 71-64, on Jan. 9.

Tulsa will host the 2013 Conference USA Championship, March 13-16, at the Tulsa Convention Center and BOK Center. The first two rounds will be played at the Tulsa Convention Center, while the semifinals and championship game will be played at the BOK Center.
