April 11, 2007

Tulsa, Okla. - University of Tulsa senior Jillian Robbins has signed a free agent contract with the Houston Comets of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). Terms of the agreement were not disclosed per team policy.

"It is a dream come true," Robbins said. "I'm very excited to be taking the next step in my basketball career and I am very thankful the Houston Comets saw the potential in me. I could not ask for a better situation to be moving home to continue my career."

A 6"1' forward from Spring, Texas, Robbins averaged 19.7 points, 11.6 rebounds, 3.27 steals and 1.83 blocks per game, while connecting on 52.5-percent of her field goal attempts and 65.0-percent of her free throw attempts this season. She notched 20 double-doubles, claimed the school's only women's triple-double and scored in double figures in 28 of 30 contests.

"I am thrilled for Jillian," Tulsa Head Coach Charlene Thomas-Swinson said. "This is a dream come true for her to have the opportunity to make Houston's roster. Karleen [Thompson] in an excellent coach and has been in the business for while, and I know that Jillian wants to be able to put her best foot forward to please the Houston organization."

Robbins picked up Associated Press Honorable Mention and Kodak/WBCA Honorable Mention All-America honors, was named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year, and earned C-USA first team and C-USA all-defensive team accolades. She led the league in rebounding (11.6) and steals (3.27), and was third in scoring (19.7) and blocked shots (1.83). She also ranked nationally in scoring (#20), rebounds (#7) and steals (#5).

Robbins concluded her outstanding collegiate career with 2,108 points, 1,313 rebounds, 747 field goals, 602 free throws, 347 steals, 251 blocked shots, 66 double-doubles and one triple-double, holding the TU record in all categories.

Robbins is the fourth Tulsa player in school history to sign a contract with a WNBA team, as Carla Morrow (1998-2002) signed with the Seattle Storm in 2002, Allison Curtin (2002-03) was drafted by the Detroit Shock in 2003 and Megan Moody (2002-06) signed with the Houston Comets in 2006.
