Tulsa, Oklahoma - The 2000-01 basketball season at The University of Tulsa got started on a positive note as more than 3,500 fans welcomed both the men's and women's basketball teams back to the court at the Donald W. Reynolds Center at 12:01am, October 14.

The night was filled with shooting contests, prizes and highlight videos for the fans before the clock struck midnight. At 12:01 both teams were introduced to the public

Following player introductions, the women's team scrimmaged for 10 minutes.Senior Denise Wagner led all scorers with seven points, followed by six points each from senior Athena Pirpich, junior Carla Morrow and freshman Becky Heidotten.

The men took the floor for a 10-minute scrimmage as well. Senior David Shelton and junior Greg Harrington led all scorers with eight points apiece, as every Golden Hurricane player got into the scoring column. Senior Marcus Hill and sophomore Dante Swanson added six points apiece.

To close the evening, Kathy McConnell-Miller addressed the crowd, as did first-year Hurricane men's coach Buzz Peterson. Peterson then introduced two of Tulsa's finest stars from last year -- Tony Heard and Eric Coley -- as the 2000 NCAA Tournament Elite Eight banner was unveiled.
