Tulsa, Oklahoma - The Tulsa women's basketball team will host Texas Southern in the season opener beginning at 11:30 am on Friday, November 8th at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the Reynolds Center ticket office.

The TU-TSU contest is Educational Day, where nearly 475 kids, teachers and parents from local schools will be in attendance. The game is also free to all University of Tulsa faculty and staff if they show their TU ID.

Tulsa topped Newman (90-67) and Rogers State (84-52) in exhibition contests earlier this season. Liesl Spoerl led the Golden Hurricane with 15.5 points per game and added 7.0 rebounds per game, while Kelsee Grovey posted 12.5 ppg, 5.5 rpg and 2.0 steals per game. Ashley Clark added 8.5 ppg and 7.5 rpg, while starting point guard Erika Lane recorded 5.5 ppg, 4.5 rpg and a team-best 7.0 assists per game.

The Golden Hurricane returns seven letterwinners, including three starters, and welcomes seven newcomers this season. A year ago, Tulsa advanced to the NCAA Championship for the second time in school history, but fell to #1 seed and #4 ranked Stanford in the first round. The Golden Hurricane advanced to the tournament after winning four-straight Conference USA tournament games en route to the title and the automatic bid. TU finished the season with 17 wins, the most victories since 2006.

Texas Southern is located in Houston, Texas and is a member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference. The Tigers are coached by Johnetta Hayes-Perry, who's in her first season as the head coach. TSU returns seven letterwinners, including two starters, from last year's team that finished with a 20-12 overall record and a 16-2 mark for first place in the SWAC.

This is just the second meeting between Tulsa and Texas Southern, as the Golden Hurricane earned a 72-53 win over the Tigers during the 2008-09 season. The game was played at the Reynolds Center in the Tulsa Select Holiday Classic.
