Tulsa, Oklahoma - The Tulsa women's basketball team will play its first game of the 2000-01 season with an exhibition contest against the Australian Institute of Sport at 7:05 p.m. this Wednesday at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.

Second-year Head Coach Kathy McConnell-Miller returns eight letterwinners, including two starters, for the 2000-01 season. Senior Denise Wagner and junior Carla Morrow are the only returning starters from last years squad. Wagner led TU in rebounding a year ago with 6.2 rebounds per game and was the fourth-leading scorer on the team with 8.8 points per contest. Morrow was the Hurricane's second leading rebounder with 6.1 boards per outing and was the third leading scorer with 9.0 points per game.

The 2000-2001 Tulsa roster will feature six newcomer including freshmen Candice Brewer (5-8), Jenks native Kim Chiconas (6-1), Kayla Elliott (5-9) and Becky Heidotten (6-3), and juniors Alyssa Shriver (6-3) and Mia Williams (5-6).

Last season, McConnell-Miller, the 2000 Western Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, guided the Hurricane to an overall record of 14-15, the second best win total in school history and the most wins since basketball was reinstated five years ago. TU finished fourth in the WAC with a school-best 9-5 mark and captured its first-ever postseason tournament game with its victory over TCU in the first round of the 2000 WAC Tournament.
