Mesa, Arizona - The Tulsa women's golf team placed third with a 54-hole score of 892 at the 2012 Clover Cup on Sunday afternoon on a day when the tournament was slowed due to two rain delays. Hurricane junior Kristina Merkle finished in fourth place individually with a final score of 217 at the par-72 Longbow Golf Club.

Colorado led from start to finish as the Buffaloes shot a final round 297 for a 54-hole total of 855. Oklahoma finished in second place (886) and was followed by Tulsa (892), Texas Tech (904) and host Notre Dame (905) to round out the top-five teams.

Merkle, who started the day in a first-place tie, turned in a final round of 79 today to close the 54-hole event with a score of one-over par 217. Merkle bogeyed six of her first 10 holes on Sunday and played one-over par the rest of the way.

Senior Kamryn Ruffin turned in Tulsa's best round of the day with a two-over par 74 and finished in 11th place with a score of 223. Fellow senior Marita Engzelius shot a 76 today and finished in 19th place overall with a score of 226.

Sophomore Kayla Riede finished in 26th place with a total score of 229 after today's round of 79. Senior Sarah Elliot had an eagle on her 15th hole of the day, the par-4 fourth hole, and she finished with a final round total of 77 to close out the tournament in 42nd place with a score of 235.

Three Tulsa golfers played as individuals at the tournament -- Anna Young finished 44th, Shu-Yin Liu finished in 60th place and Nanna Nielsen placed 71st.

Individually, Colorado's Jessica Wallace, Alex Stewart and Emily Talley took the first three places, each with under-par scores for the 54-hole tournament.

 

 

Tulsa is back in action next at the UALR Women's Golf Classic, March 26-27, at the Diamante Golf Course in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
