Fresno, Calif. - The Tulsa women's golf team is in first place following 36 holes on Monday at the Fresno State Lexus Classic. The Hurricane carded identical rounds of nine-under par 297 for a three-stroke lead over Long Beach State at the par-72 Copper River Country Club.

Tulsa senior Kristina Merkle is in fourth place after turning in rounds of 73 and 71 for an even-par score of 144. Merkle began her second round with birdie puts on the par-4 fourth and fifth holes. After bogey's on her fifth and sixth holes in second round action, Merkle birdied three of her next four holes, the par-4 10th, par-5 11th and par-5 13th holes. She then suffered two more bogeys and ended the round with a one-under par 71 score.

Freshman Antonia Von Wnuck, who was in a second-place tie individually after the first 18 holes with an even-par 72, finished the day in eighth place with a score of 147 after her second round score of 75. Senior Shu-Yin Liu is in 23rd place with identical rounds of 76 for a 152 total and is followed closely by both Heather Smith and Jessica Lydia. Smith is in 29th place overall with a 153 total after rounds of 76 and 77, while Lydia carded rounds of 79 and 75 for a 154 total and 37th place.

After Long Beach State's second place score of 597, UC Irvine is in third place at 601 and is followed by Oregon State and San Jose State tied for fourth place with scores of 605.

Long Beach State's Simone Hoey and UC Irvine's Luciane Lee are tied for the ndividual lead with three-under par scores of 141.

The tournament will conclude on Tuesday with the final 18 holes.
