Tulsa Women Golfers in Sixth Place at C-USA Championships

Birmingham, Alabama - The Tulsa women's golf team is in sixth place after first round action at the Conference USA Golf Championships. The Hurricane, playing with only four golfers due to an injury, only trail team leaders, UTEP and SMU, by seven strokes.
The Hurricane carded a first round 315 score at the par 72 Limestone Springs Golf Club. UTEP and SMU are tied for first-place with 20-over par 308 totals, followed by UCF (309), Memphis (310) and East Carolina (314) to round out the top-five teams.
Tulsa was led by a pair of newcomers, junior Tara Goedeken and freshman Ashleigh Odgers, as the duo each carded rounds of 77 on the first 18 holes. The Tulsa pair are in a tie for seventh place. Sophomore Annabel Rolley is one stroke back with a 78 today and is in a tie for 14th place.
Goedeken was one-under par after the front nine, but suffered one double bogey and one triple bogey on her last nine holes. She went into the 18th hole at two-over par, but suffered a triple to end the day at five-over par.
Tulsa's No. 1 golfer this year, Michaela Cavener, struggled in opening round competition and sits in 34th place after a first round 83. Cavener suffered two triple bogey's but ended the day on a good note with a birdie putt at the 18th hole.
UTEP's Gerina Mendoza, ranked 73rd nationally, carded the best round of the day with a four-under par 68, five strokes better than Kate Ackerson of SMU and Memphis' Stacy Tate, both tied for second place with scores of 73.
Second round action takes place on Tuesday, while the tournament will conclude on Wednesday.
