Tulsa Women's Golf Team Ranked 30th in Golf World Poll
Sept. 2, 2008
Tulsa, Oklahoma - The University of Tulsa women's golf team earned a preseason No. 30 ranking in the Golf World/NCGA preseason coaches poll, it was announced today.
Tulsa is the only school in the Conference USA to receive votes in the poll. On top of the poll is defending national champion Southern California, followed by UCLA, Duke, Arizona State, Oklahoma State, Georgia, Purdue, Florida, Auburn, and Alabama round out the top 10.
Tulsa is led by the 2008 C-USA Newcomer of the Year, Woori Shin. In the spring, Shin played in eight tournaments and carded four top-10 finishes, including a victory at the C-USA Championships.
Last season, Tulsa won four tournaments including an 18-stroke victory at the Conference USA Championships. The victory guaranteed the women an invitation to the NCAA Championship, where the Golden Hurricane carded a four-round team total of 1,228 for 19th place.
"We had a wonderful spring season and finished in the top-25," said Head Coach Randy Keck. "We graduated three wonderful seniors, but no one really knows about the quality of our young players yet, so we hope to surprise some people."
In addition to Shin, the Golden Hurricane return two letterwinners from a year ago, including sophomores Brooke Baker and Kelly Fuchik. The returning trio will be joined by six newcomers.
The women's golf team opens the season, September 9-11, at the Topy Cup in Japan.
