Tulsa Makes Major Jump at International Competition
Sept. 6, 2000 The University of Tulsa women's golf team improved 29 shots to score the day's best round of two-over par 290 at the 2000 Topy Cup U.S.-Japan Intercollegiate Golf Championship played at the Tanagura Country Club in Tanagura, Japan. In the first round Tulsa shot a disappointing 319 for fifth place, but jumped into second-place with its two-over team score of 290 for a 36-hole total of 609. Texas, the only other U.S. team in the women's field, continues to hold onto the lead after a round of 293 for a 599 total. Tulsa's two-time All-American Stacy Prammanasudh improved upon a career worst round of 84 in the first round to shoot the best score of the second round with a two-under par 70. Prammanasudh shot a 33 on the front nine with four birdies, while hitting a 37 on the backside with a birdie and bogeys on the final two holes. Prammansudh moved into a four-way tie for ninth place individually. Tulsa's freshmen duo of Julie Tvede and Suzie Fisher continued toplay solid golf as well, leading the Hurricane individually. Tvede carded a one-under par 71 for a fourth-place total of 149, while Fisher's 75 puts her in eighth place overall with a nine-over par 153. Junior Dani Mallon's 156 total after a second round score of 74 is good for 15th place, while sophomore Maiko Senda is in 18th place with a 36-hole score of 157. Texas' Kristin Dufour carded her second straight one-over par 73 to take a one-stroke individual lead into the final round. The tournament will conclude n Wednesday.
