Women's Golf Set to Host Dale McNamara Invitational Sept. 13, 2012
TULSA, Okla. - The Tulsa women's golf team opens the 2012-13 season with its home event, the third annual Dale McNamara Invitational, Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 17-18, at The Golf Club of Oklahoma in Broken Arrow, Okla. The Dale McNamara Invitational, which is named after legendry Tulsa coach Dale McNamara, will feature 15 teams and be played on the 6,282-yard, par-72 Golf Club of Oklahoma course. The teams will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday. The 15-team field includes Arizona State, UALR, Augusta State, Coastal Carolina, East Carolina, Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Kennesaw State, Marshall, Middle Tennessee State, Oklahoma State, SMU, Texas San Antonio and host Tulsa.
Arizona State is coached by former TU All-American Melissa Luellen, the daughter of Dale McNamara. The Sun Devils are ranked fourth in the Golf World/NGCA Division I Women's Preseason Coaches Poll, and are joined in the rankings by No. 9 Florida and No. 21 Oklahoma State. Tournament play will begin with a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m. each day. McNamara began the Golden Hurricane women's golf program in 1974, and built the program into a national powerhouse, winning four national championships in her 26 years at the school.
