Rodney Mott is in his fourth year as an assistant coach, as well as boatman/rigger for the Golden Hurricane rowing team. He assists with the instruction of the novice and varsity crews, as well as oversees all the equipment that keeps the rowing team on the water and racing. Mott has been professionally involved in rowing for over 20 years.

During the 2012-13 season, Mott helped TU earn 24 first-place marks and medal 63 boats in 10 regattas. The Golden Hurricane's Lightweight 8+ recorded a third-place finish at the Dad Vail Regatta and Knecht Cup, while the Lightweight 4+ also earned a bronze meal at the Knecht Cup. TU claimed the Lawless Cup with a 19-second win over SMU and finished ninth in Conference USA. Amy Nelson was named to the CRCA South All-Region team, 10 were tabbed as CRCA Scholar Athletes and 50 rowers received C-USA academic recognition.

Mott assisted the Golden Hurricane to 19 first-place marks, while 34 boats finished among the top three in eight regattas during the 2011-12 season. TU's Lightweight 8+ won their event at the Head of the Hooch, while the Lightweight 2x and Novice 4+ captured top finishes at the Head of the Oklahoma. Tulsa once again claimed the Lawless Cup and finished fifth in Conference USA, while Stephanie Rogers was named as a Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association All-American, the first for TU in program history.

During the 2010-11 season, Mott helped coach TU to 22 first-place finishes and saw 57 boats medal in 11 regattas. The Golden Hurricane earned a sixth-place finish in the Lightweight 4+ at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championship, medaled its first-ever boat at the Conference USA Championship as the Varsity 4+ picked up a bronze medal, and medaled all five boats at the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association to tie for the women's team trophy.

Before coming to Tulsa, Mott served as the Head Rowing Coach and Lecturer for the Physical Education Department at Vassar College for four years. During his tenure, Mott's teams broke every team record in school history, and in the 2006-07 season, his team was ranked No. 13 in the country.

Mott previously served as head rowing coach at Willamette (1996-2006), Puget Sound (1989-1996) and North Idaho (1988-89), and was an assistant coach at Washington State (1988).

Mott received his degree in American studies from Washington State in 1991. He has been a member of US Rowing since 1984 and a member of the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association since 1999. Mott holds a US Rowing Coaching Certification, Levels I, II, and III.

Mott and his wife, Tina, have one daughter, Makishi.
