Lightweight 8+ Posts Top Finish in Final Day at OU Invitational
March 10, 2013
Oklahoma City, Okla. - Tulsa's Lightweight 8+ posted a top finish in their race, while the Hurricane rowers trailed Minnesota in the other four events today at the OU Invitational on the Oklahoma River in Oklahoma City, Okla. "We had a great, solid day of racing," Head Coach Kevin Harris said. "Minnesota is always in the upper-half of the Big 10, so we knew today was going to be a challenge. The most positive thing is the fact that all the boats did better today than yesterday. We made some changes to the race plan, and the TU rowers took on the challenge and went out and raced really well in some very tough weather conditions. I am really proud of them." The Tulsa Lightweight 8+ went undefeated on the weekend, topping Minnesota by 20 seconds with a time of 7:00.91. In the Varsity 8+, TU trailed the Gophers by 11 seconds with a time of 6:50.50, while the Second Varsity 8+ recorded a time of 7:09.31. In the Fours, the Second Varsity 4+ had the closest finish, a seven-second difference, with a time of 8:13.39, while the Varsity 4+ tallied a time of 8:22.31. "This weekends races will definitely help us as we move forward," Harris said. "We are looking forward to the next two weeks of practice before our next regatta." TU will return to the water on March 22-24 at the Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas.
