Tulsa Rowers Record Three Top Marks on Final Day at Oklahoma Invitational
March 11, 2012
Oklahoma City, Okla. - The Tulsa rowers captured three top finishes over Central Oklahoma on Sunday afternoon in the final day of racing at the Oklahoma Invitational in Oklahoma City, Okla. "It was a great team effort," Head Coach Kevin Harris said. "The Tulsa rowing team learned a lot from this regatta. We got a lot of races in in a short time, were able to race a lot of different lineups and we grew a lot as a team. It was great to get a gauge of where we stand in regional competition." TU's Varsity 4+ turned in a top time of 8:04.26, nearly 30-seconds ahead of UCO, while the Varsity 8+ and Second Varsity 8+ posted similar victories in their races. The Golden Hurricane's Novice 4+ trailed Oklahoma and Kansas State to finish third, while the Lightweight 8+ boat was four seconds behind the Wildcats. "Today was about trying to find a rhythm with our race plan," Harris said. "The Lightweights were up against a very good Kansas State boat, and the fact that they did so well against them was great. Our novices had a rough row this morning, but overall we like what we are seeing and we will keep moving in that direction." TU will return to action on March 31 and April 1 at the San Diego Crew Classic in San Diego, Calif. Novice 4+ 1. Oklahoma - 8:05.26 2. Kansas State - 8:06.25 3. Tulsa - 8:28.02
