Tulsa Rowers Faced San Diego on Day One of Longhorn Invitational
March 22, 2013
Austin, Texas - The Tulsa rowers competed against San Diego in three events on Friday afternoon at the Longhorn Invitational at Lady Bird Lake in Austin, Texas. TU will continue action at the Longhorn Invitational tomorrow against Kansas State and Oklahoma. "I thought it was a good day," Head Kevin Harris said. "We executed well and did a lot of things right, but we didn't win." The Toreros recorded a five-second win over Tulsa in the Varsity 8+ with a time of 6:44.1 compared to the Hurricane's time of 6:49.4. "The Varsity 8+ did everything they were suppose to do but win," Harris said. "They executed the race plan, but San Diego got out on us early. We know this is a weakness of ours, so we need to work on our race plan to work it out." In the Second Varsity 8+ race, TU posted a time of 7:00.9, just three seconds shy of San Diego's time of 6:57.6. "The Second Varsity 8+ got up on San Diego at the start," Harris said. "San Diego had a valiant effort to get back on us, but I am proud of the way we raced, we just have to find a way to win in those tight situations." Tulsa trailed USD by four seconds in the Varsity 4+ race and posted a time of 7:56.9. "The Varsity 4+ is all freshmen, but they had a good shot at winning all the way down the course," Harris said. "I was happy with their effort. They don't have a lot of experience racing the 2,000-meter course, so they will get better throughout the season."
