Tulsa Beats Kansas State in the Four and Eight at the Longhorn Invitational
March 23, 2014
Austin, Texas - The Tulsa rowers earned wins over Kansas State in the Varsity 4+ and Varsity 8+ on Sunday morning at the Longhorn Invitational on Lady Bird Lake in Austin, Texas.
The Golden Hurricane Varsity 4+ captured a 10-second victory, turning in a time of 7:31.70 to the Wildcats' time of 7:41.30. KSU's 2nd Varsity 4+ tallied an eight-second win over TU, while UCF finished three seconds ahead of Tulsa in the 3rd Varsity 4+/Novice 4+ race.
In the Varsity 8+ race, the Hurricane posted a one-second lead over Kansas State with a time of 6:37.60. The Wildcats' 2nd Varsity 8+ and 3rd Varsity 8+/Novice 8+ boats recorded top marks over TU.
"We had another good day today," Head Coach Kevin Harris said. "The racing that we did in the Varsity 8+ and Varsity 4+, especially, points the team toward how good we can be, but we have to keep improving. If the team races the way we've coached them, it gives them a shot when it gets tough. We don't have the lineups right in the second and third boats, but it was our first race so we will look to make changes to make them even faster."
The Tulsa rowers will return to action on April 5-6 at the San Diego Crew Classic in San Diego, California.
