Golden Hurricane's Novice 4+ and Novice 8+ also earn medals

Tulsa's Varsity 4+ captured a gold medal, while the Novice 4+ and Novice 8+ earned silver and bronze medals, respectively, on Saturday at the Knecht Cup on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.
"I am very happy with how Tulsa raced today," Head Coach Kevin Harris said. "It was a very good day, and this regatta was a great learning experience. Everyone stepped up, and I am looking forward to seeing what we do at SIRA's next week."
TU's Varsity 4+ turned in a time of 8:44.5, more than 10 seconds faster than second-place Philadelphia, to win the gold medal. The Golden Hurricane's Novice 4+ finished second with a time of 9:13.2, while the Novice 8+ was third with a time of 8:04.4, claiming Tulsa's first medal in the event at the Knecht Cup.
"We started down in the Varsity 4+, but we took an extra power-10 to get out on the other crews," junior Krysti Knoche said. "We kept pushing, gained some speed and took the gold medal."
Tulsa also advanced two boats to the Lightweight 4+ Grand Final, finishing fifth and sixth overall in the event, while TU's 13th-ranked Lightweight 8+ claimed a top time of 8:33.6 in the Petite Final, topping #11 Duquesne and #10 Buffalo.
In the Varsity 8+, the Golden Hurricane finished sixth in the Petite Final with a time of 7:44.4.
Tulsa's women's rowing team will return to action on April 18-19 at the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association (SIRA) Championships in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
