Tulsa Rowers Advance Boats to `C' Final at Lake Natoma Invitational
April 14, 2012
Gold River, Calif. - The Tulsa rowers advanced the Varsity 4+, Varsity 8+ and Second Varsity 8+ to the `C' Final of the Lake Natoma Invitational on Saturday in Gold River, Calif. "This is one of the deepest pools of competition that we have rowed in and it's making us faster," Head Coach Kevin Harris said. "To come out to California and race against six of the Top 20 teams in the country is a real joy for us, and as a coach it's great to see our athletes stepping up to the challenge." In the morning races, TU faced Cal and Washington State in the Varsity 4+, Varsity 8+ and Second Varsity 8+, finishing third in all three events. "The morning racing was really good," Harris said. "Even though we finished third in all three races it was evident that we have picked up some speed since the San Diego Crew Classic. The Varsity 8+ finishing roughly six seconds back on Washington State was definitely a highlight because WSU has been a perennially strong team in NCAA racing." In the afternoon, the Hurricane raced against Wisconsin and Stanford, again finishing third in the Four and two Eights. TU's Varsity 4+ nearly upset Stanford, trailing by just two seconds, and took three seconds off their time from earlier in the day. Tulsa's eighth-ranked Lightweight 8+ also competed today, falling to top-ranked Stanford and 13th-ranked California in dual races. "Overall it was a really good day on the course for our team," Harris said. "Tomorrow our goal is to have our best racing, gain more speed and get ourselves ready to come home and face a strong team from SMU next weekend in Catoosa." Varsity 4+ 1. Cal - 7:22.80 2. Washington State - 7:28.00 3. Tulsa - 7:51.90
