Tulsa Lightweight Boats Both Finish Third at Knecht Cup
April 14, 2013
Cherry Hill, N.J. -Both the Tulsa Lightweight 4+ and Lightweight 8+ boats turned in third-place marks in the Grand Finals to earn bronze medals at the Knecht Cup on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J.
"I think when we look back at the Knecht Cup, it is going to be a game changing weekend for our lightweight crew," Head Coach Kevin Harris said. "The fact that they were a bow ahead of Wisconsin yesterday and the fact that we medaled today shows the direction our lightweight team is going. Wisconsin and Bucknell are lightweight powers. I heard a lot from our lightweight alumni and they are really excited about what we accomplished this weekend. We hope to continue to find success as we face Bucknell and MIT again this season at the Dad Vail, at which the top two teams qualify for the Lightweight IRA National Championship."
In the Four, Tulsa tallied a tie of 8:06.81 to trail first-place performer Penn State by nine seconds and Boston by three seconds.
The Hurricane was just six seconds behind Wisconsin and five seconds more than Bucknell to finish third in the Eight with a time of 6:48.51.
Tulsa will return to action next weekend as the Hurricane races at the Lake Natoma Invitational in Gold River, Calif.
