Hurricane Varsity 4+ Takes First in `C' Final at Lake Natoma Invitational
April 15, 2012
Gold River, Calif. - Tulsa's Varsity 4+ captured a top finish in the `C' Final on Sunday morning at the Lake Natoma Invitational in Gold River, Calif., while the Varsity 8+ was second and the Second Varsity 8+ was third in their races. "I thought it was a good day of racing," Head Coach Kevin Harris said. "We learned a lot and each boat got better in each race this weekend." In the Varsity 4+, TU posted a time of 7:42.5, more than five seconds faster than second-place Indiana and 10 seconds faster than Sacramento State. "The Four had exactly the race they needed to race today," Harris said. "They took control of the race from the first stroke and did a fantastic job. We had a mishap and damaged the Judy MacLeod shell earlier this weekend, but we happened to pick up our newest edition to our equipment, a Four shell, while we had the trailer in California earlier this week. We were able to still race thanks to the support of the Golden Hurricane nation, especially Craig and Denise Malcolm." The Hurricane's Varsity 8+ turned in a second-place time of 6:50.36, and the Second Varsity 8+ was third with a time of 7:09.4. "The Varsity 8+ race wasn't perfect, but it was the fastest we've raced all spring, and the 2V8 race was the best race for them this weekend," Harris said. "We know we have speed and we know we can hang with a lot of other crews. We will go back, regroup and prepare for SMU in the Lawless Cup." Tulsa will return to action on Saturday, April 21st as the Hurricane hosts the Lawless Cup against SMU in Catoosa, Okla. Varsity 4+ `C' Final 1. Tulsa - 7:42.5 2. Indiana - 7:47.6 3. Sacramento State - 7:52.1
