Tulsa Rowers Faced Four Top-15 Teams at Lake Natoma Invitational
April 20, 2013
Tulsa, Oklahoma -The Tulsa rowing team took on four ranked teams in the first day of racing at the Lake Natoma Invitational in Gold River, Calif. The Golden Hurricane crew will conclude racing in the regatta tomorrow.
"It wasn't a bad day, but not the day we hoped to have," Head Coach Kevin Harris said. "I thought this afternoon went better than this morning, but the women have handled taking on these top teams well. We just need to get faster and find a way to race better at this level. It is a learning process and our team has learned a lot. We are a young team, but I think they've matured quickly and I have a lot of confidence in them, so hopefully we'll go out tomorrow and put some `w's' on the board."
In the morning session, TU took on #9 Stanford and #15 Wisconsin and finished third in all three races. In the Varsity 4+, Wisconsin turned in a top time of 7:23.9, followed by Stanford at 7:24.2 and the Hurricane at 8:04.5. TU posted a time of 6:59.0 in the Varsity 8+, trailing Stanford (6:36.9) and Wisconsin (6:45.5), while the Second Varsity 8+ turned in a time of 7:20.6 to follow Wisconsin (6:43.3) and Stanford (6:48.2).
In the second session of the day, the Hurricane took on #5 California and #12 Notre Dame, but also posted third-place marks in all three races. Cal won all three races, including a time of 6:30.2 in the Varsity 8+, while Notre Dame was second with a time of 6:33.5. TU earned a time of 6:59.3 in the same event.
