April 21, 2013
Gold River, Calif. -
The Tulsa rowers took on Kansas and Sacramento State in the final day of racing at the Lake Natoma Invitational in Gold River, Calif., and the Hurricane earned a top finish in the Varsity 8+ and a second-place mark in the Varsity 4+.
"I was pretty happy with today's racing," Head Coach Kevin Harris said. "I thought we did really well in what we've been trying to do all weekend, which is have a better race plan. There is a difference in rowing well and racing well. I though all three of our boats handled all of this weekend's changes really well and I am happy with how we did this weekend against some very tough competition. Today was a foreshadowing of next year because Kansas is already in our rowing conference and next year Sacramento State will join us, so it was a great race today and it will make us all better in the future."
TU's Varsity 8+ raced a time of 6:52.6 to finish seven seconds ahead of Sacramento State (6:59.8), while the Jayhawks finished third with a time of 7:02.2.
