Tulsa's Novice 4+ and Lightweight 4+ Capture Second-Place Marks at Head of the Hooch
Nov. 2, 2013
Chattanooga, Tenn. - - Tulsa's Novice 4+ and Lightweight 4+ both captured second-place finishes on Saturday at the Head of the Hooch on the Tennessee River in Chattanooga, Tenn. TU will continue in the regatta tomorrow, racing in the Lightweight 1x, Open 2- and Open 8+.
"It wasn't the day we were working toward," Head Coach Kevin Harris said. "We had some tough races in the Eights, and in the Lightweight 4+ we had some breakage in the boat, but that is part of racing, anything can happen. It was frustrating, but we had some good performances in the Fours and Doubles. This regatta is a very deep field, but we aren't far off anywhere. We know what we need to do and tomorrow we'll come back and try to get a little bit faster."
Kaitlyn Schneider, Emily Loudenback, Jessica LeafMeeker, Lindsay Crute and Elizabeth Keane raced the Golden Hurricane's Lightweight 4+ `B' to a second-place mark with a time of 19:14.1, while the Tulsa `A' boat was fifth in a time of 20:46.1.
The Novice 4+, consisting of Marcia Vidaurri, Abigail Elggren, McKenna Jarvis, Mary Kowalchyk and Stephanie Hendricks, posted a time of 19:27.1, just five seconds behind Jacksonville, but more than a 70 seconds faster than third-place Charleston. TU's `B' boat was ninth with a time of 21:29.2.
In the Novice 8+, the Hurricane was fifth with a time of 17:45.5, while league members Old Dominion, Kansas and SMU took the top three spots.
In the Championship 4+, Tulsa finished seventh and 22nd overall, while the Championship 8+ boats were 10th, 14th and 17th.
