Marissa Catalanotto Wins Lightweight 1x at Head of the Hooch
Nov. 3, 2013
Chattanooga, Tenn. - Tulsa's Marissa Catalanotto won the Lightweight 1x race while the Open 8+ captured a silver medal on Sunday at the Head of the Hooch on the Tennessee River in Chattanooga, Tenn.
"This regatta was really a tale of two different days," Head Coach Kevin Harris said. "We made some changes in our top Eight and we came out aggressive. We have plenty of speed from top to bottom, but we have to work to find it and put in the right places, which is what the fall is all about. I was really pleased with Marissa and Colleen as they raced well in the Single, as well as our two Pair boats. Now we will go inside and get ready for the spring."
Marissa turned in a time of 19:31.6 to win a gold medal, finishing more than 14-seconds ahead of Club de Remo. Colleen Wohlrab posted a time of 20:01.0 for fourth place in the Single.
In the Open 8+, TU trailed Miami by four seconds with a time of 15:29.8 for second place, but topped third-place Old Dominion by nine seconds. The Golden Hurricane also finished 16th, 17th and 24th in the event.
Tulsa will return to action on March 8th against Kansas in an exhibition race in Catoosa, Okla.
