Tulsa Women's Rowing Team Records Five First-Place Finishes at Wichita Frostbite

The University of Tulsa women's rowing team notched five first-place finishes and 14 top-five marks at the 15th Annual Wichita Frostbite Regatta on Sunday.  Races took place at Riverside Park on the Little Arkansas River in Wichita, Kansas.  The Golden Hurricane raced 19 boats down the 1.7 mile course for the final regatta of the fall season.

"It was a great day for us," Head Coach Kevin Harris said. "We are getting faster and more confident and it shows in our races today. The small boats had a terrific day, as we earned first-and second-place marks in each event."

In the Open Pair, juniors Angela Rozowski-Vogt and Michelle Sechser combined for a first-place mark in a time of 10:33, while sophomore Allison Bridge and senior Monika Burton finished second with a time of 11:14.

Golden Hurricane junior Stacey Gilham and senior Sarah Laurent, and juniors Vanessa Andrews and Becky Jenschke tallied first and second-place marks in the Open Double, respectively, with times of 10:31 and 10:47.

Senior coxswain Julie Burch coached classmate Emily Bailey, Laurent, Sechser and Gilham to a time of 9:52 in the Open 4+ for a first-place mark, while sophomore Nicole Falvo led Bridge, sophomore Meaghan Dooley, freshman Brianna Palmer and Rozowski-Vogt to a second-place time of 9:57.

In the Lightweight 4+, junior Gabriela Lopez coxed Casey Stellato, Alex Stellato, Burton and Danielle Guccione to a top mark in a time of 10:20.

The Golden Hurricane also earned a top finish with a time of 9:02 in the Varsity 8, which was comprised Rozowski-Vogt, Sechser, Shara Derks, Palmer, Gilham, Chelsea Cornell, Andrews and Jenschke, and was led by Falvo, while freshman Aidan Leddy tabbed a third-place finish in the Open Single.

In the Novice races, TU registered a third-place finish in the Novice 4+, and claimed a fourth-place mark in the Novice 8+.

"We have a lot of talent in the Novice crew and it showed today," Harris said. "Julie Domina does a great job with them and they had some great finishes today."
