Hurricane Rowers Dedicate
Feb. 6, 2013
Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa Rowing Team is dedicating their newest racing shell, a 2012 Hudson Hammer Head Eight. The new shell will be named Michelle Sechser. Sechser was a four-year letterwinner who participated in nearly every regatta from 2004-2008. She raced in the Pair, Four and Eight throughout her career. Sechser won two Midwest Championships, earned Academic and All-Region honors from the Collegiate Rowing Association, and served as team captain in her senior year.
After leaving Tulsa, Sechser pursued her dream to become a member of the United States Rowing Team. In 2011, she won two bronze medals representing the US at the Pan-American Games. Most recently, her Women's Lightweight Quad finished fourth in the World in 2012. Michelle's dream is to represent the US at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janiero, Brazil. Sechser earned both a bachelor's degree with honors in 2008 and an MBA from Tulsa in 2010 Naming a shell is one of the highest honors a rowing team can bestow on an alumna. Sechser is the first rowing alum ever honored in this manner at Tulsa. |
