Tulsa Records Two Top Marks over Kansas State at Longhorn Invitational
March 23, 2013
Austin, Texas - The Tulsa rowers earned two top marks over Kansas State, but dropped three races to Oklahoma on Saturday at the Longhorn Invitational at Lady Bird Lake in Austin, Texas. TU will compete again tomorrow in the final day of the Longhorn Invitational.
"It was a good day with mixed results," Head Coach Kevin Harris said. "We had good racing this morning in the Varsity 4+ and Varsity 8+ against Kansas State. We didn't have bad races against Oklahoma, but they are faster than we are at this point and we couldn't catch them. All three boats executed their race plan well, our boats are getting faster and there were a lot of positives to come out of today."
Tulsa faced Kansas State in the morning, capturing wins in both the Varsity 4+ and Varsity 8+. In the Eight, the Hurricane dominated the race and earned a 10-second victory with a time of 6:46.2, while the Four squeaked by with a half-second time (7:41.5) faster than the Wildcats. In the Second Varsity 8+, KSU was four seconds ahead of TU with times of 6:50.5 and 6:54.1, respectively.
In the afternoon, the Hurricane trailed Oklahoma in all three races. Tulsa raced the Varsity 8+ to the closest time, trailing by nine seconds with a time of 7:06.5, while the Second Varsity 8+ recorded a time of 7:27.6 and the Varsity 4+ posted a time of 8:19.5.
