Tulsa Captures Six of Eight Events in Regatta
March 24, 2001 Tulsa, Oklahoma - The University of Tulsa women's rowing team captured wins in six of eight events against SMU in Saturday's regatta at the Arkansas River. All three of Tulsa's eight-person boats won their respective races, including the JV-8, Novice-8 and Varsity-8 boats. In the Varsity-8 race, Tulsa had a 0:15 advantage against SMU with a time of 6:40.2 compared to SMU's clocking of 6:55.2.. The Varsity-8 boat consisted of coxswain Jenny Smith, Brandi Woodson, Emily Saul, Solange Rousset, Jayme Anderson, Maggie Hall, Sue Casey, Amanda Smith and Melissa Dilworth. In the novice division, Tulsa's JV-8 boat with Chrissie Williams as coxswain captured a close victory in a time of 7:02.0 to 7:05.3 for SMU. Joining Williams in the winning boat for the Hurricane was Jamie Vick, Sarah Kennedy, Kristen Taylor, Lindsay Nook, Laura Brown, Melissa Lok, Maria Bergmann and Jonna Akin. Tulsa's Novice-8 defeated the SMU JV-8, in a time of 73.6 to 8:11.1. Tulsa's boat consisted of coxswain Tina Tran, Amy Horiban, Jennifer Gastorf, Mary Berner, Jennifer Ashbaugh, Ondrea Kanwhen, Farron Garling, Heather Wilson and Arina Aldaco. In the 4-person boat competition, the Hurricane captured wins with the Varsity 4A, Varsity 4C and Novice 4B boats. Tulsa is in action next at the University of Kansas Regatta, March 31 - April 1 in Lawrence, Kansas.
