Tulsa Rowers Sweep Varsity-8 Races in Kansas April 16, 2001 Lawrence, Kansas - The University of Tulsa captured wins in three Varsity-8 races at the Jayhawk Invitational, March 31-April 1. Tulsa's Varsity-8 crew defeated Indiana, Kansas State, UMass and Kansas to sweep the four Varsity-8 races of the weekend. On Saturday, due to weather conditions, the race length was shortened to 1,500 meters. In Varsity-8 action, Tulsa defeated Kansas State and Indiana in the first race, and toppled UMass in the second race. Tulsa clocked a time of 4:10.5 in race one, while in the afternoon the Hurricane clipped UMass, 4:07.1 to 4:09.7. Tulsa placed second in both the JV-8 races, while the Novice-8s placed third in both races in Saturday's competition. On Sunday, Tulsa's Varsity-8 rowers defeated Kansas by 2.1 seconds in the 2,000-meter distance. The JV-8 crew finished in second place, and the Novice-8 boat completed the regatta in fourth place.
