Rowers Head to Knoxville for the SIRA Championships

The University of Tulsa novice-8 and varsity-8 rowing squads will travel to Knoxville, Tenn., for the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association (SIRA) Championships being held Saturday, April 20, and Sunday, April 21.
For the second time this season Tulsa's novice-8 roster will see competition. The boat first raced in four races at the Longhorn Invitational, in Austin, Texas. In Tennessee, they will get the opportunity to go up against one of the top midwest rowing schools in Ohio State. Joining Tulsa and Ohio State are Purdue, Virginia Tech and John Carroll. Some of the other notable schools that are racing in the novice-8 division are Texas, Clemson, Georgia Tech and Florida.
The Hurricane's varsity-8 boat will first race Saturday morning. In Tulsa's heat will be a familiar foe in SMU, along with Jacksonville, John Carroll, Rollins and Grand Valley State. Other schools competing in the varsity-8 division include Purdue, Miami, Georgia, and Texas.
The finals for the SIRA Championships are scheduled for Sunday morning with the novice-8s races scheduled first with the varsity-8 races following.
