Tulsa Rowing Hosts Creighton on Saturday at J. Bird Sr. Shell Nest
April 26, 2013
Tulsa, Oklahoma -
The Tulsa rowers will host Creighton in a duel on Saturday, April 27th beginning at 8:30 am at the J. Bird Sr. Shell Nest in Catoosa, Okla. The two teams will compete in six races, including the Varsity 8+, Lightweight 8+/Second Varsity 8+, Varsity 4+, Third Varsity 4+, Lightweight 4+/Second Varsity 4+ and the Novice 8+.
"It is always nice to race Creighton because of the long-standing competition between the two schools," Head Coach Kevin Harris said. "Creighton is part of the West Coast Conference so it is a good crossover in terms of what we do later in the season as the NCAA looks at the different races that we do. It is also senior day and we have eight seniors to recognize this year. They are all very important to the program and we will miss them greatly. Hopefully we'll send them off with a win, and we are able to get ourselves ready for the Conference USA Championship and IRA afterward."
The Tulsa women are coming off a solid weekend of racing against some of the top teams in the nation at the Lake Natoma Invitational, and have also competed in four other regattas this season. TU's Lightweight 4+ and Lightweight 8+ both turned in third-place finishes at the Knecht Cup, while the Varsity 8+ posted wins over UCF and Kansas State at the Longhorn Invitational.
The Bluejays are coming off a duel win over Nebraska last weekend, posting the top two finishes in all three races, including the Varsity 4+ `A', Varsity 4+ `B' and Varsity 8+. Creighton also recently earned the Upper Midwest Collegiate Sprints crown, taking first in three of eight races.
