Pause at the Release is our periodic feature in which we highlight the perspective of one of our student-athletes. In these articles, the athletes share their personal experiences as part of the Golden Hurricane team with our wonderful supporters and community members. Here, you'll find the backstage story on TU Women's Rowing, told through the eyes of the athletes themselves. Check back often to see updates from more of your favorite rowers and coxswains.

Tulsa Seniors on Looking Back and Looking Forward

"I never thought I'd be on a Division I rowing team, especially since I had no prior experience, but I would do the whole thing over in a heartbeat. I've loved every moment of being on the team. I can't wait to see the great things this team accomplishes in the future, and I'm proud to say I was apart of it."

"I have had an amazing experience as rower at the University of Tulsa. From the moment I stepped on campus as a freshman, I knew I had made the right decision and this was the place I wanted to be. I have helped and watched this team grow and mold itself into the competitive, aggressive team it is today. Leaving this wonderful group of women, I know without a doubt they will go on to achieve great things and make an even bigger name for Tulsa. It's sad because I'm going to miss this SOOO much. This has been my life, but it's their time now. As seniors, we've done all we can do. I wish everyone the best of luck and I look forward to following the team in the years to come."

"My four years on the rowing team have been an incredible experience that I will always keep with me. I have had a lot of fun and have made some amazing friends. It has been exciting watching the team grow, and I can't wait to see what they do in the years to come!"

Anne Campbell-Ryan
BS Chemical Engineering

"As I think back to what I gained from being on this team, I think about the friends I have made, and the struggles we have overcome. I hope I shared with the team my passion for the art of rowing, the ability to just getting in whatever boat and pull because you love to. I hope that I taught the team how to just have fun with rowing because if you do not enjoy it then why spend all your time, effort? Plus when you are happy rowing then you will do better! The team has taught me how to be a better person. Before coming here I was very unhappy with myself, I felt like I did not have a place. Over the past four years I have grown to know what I want to do with my life, I have become more open with talking to people and most of all I have learned what really matters in life. I have grown to understand what it means to have people who care about you and care to hear what you have to say."

"I hope that the team will continue growing into a stronger and stronger team because we've come so far! Overall I hope that all of the women on the team continue to love the sport and to row with that passion. There are little things that always try to get the way, but having perspective and love for the sport helps us overcome. Kevin always says "Will these things matter a year from now?" The only thing that ever matters is that you keep going, always."

BA in Deaf Education

"The last four years rowing at TU have been the best four years of my life. I have had so much fun traveling to new places and racing my hardest. I don't know what I would do without the love and support of my teammates."
