TU Rowing Team Concludes Spring Season at Dad Vail Regatta this Weekend
May 11, 2006
Tulsa, Oklahoma - The Tulsa women's rowing team will conclude its 2006 spring season this weekend at the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia, Pa. The two-day event will take place Friday-Saturday, May 12-13 on the scenic Schuylkill River in Fairmount Park.
The Dad Vail Regatta is the largest collegiate regatta in the United States, with over 100 colleges and Universities from the United States and Canada. Its original intention was to be the "small" schools championship. It has evolved into a proving ground for schools in the top 60 in the country, and will include competitors from Massachusetts, Temple, Eastern Michigan, Buffalo, Colgate, and Connecticut among others.
"I think the team has really stepped up since our last race two weeks ago in Omaha, Neb.," Head Coach Kevin Harris said. "The Varsity Eight has definitely found some more speed and confidence, while the Second Varsity Eight has continued on its upswing. There will be a lot of fast rowing teams and we'll have to race our best races to advance during the weekend. The competition is great about this regatta and it forces teams to be at their best in every race if they want to win."
The Golden Hurricane will compete in the Varsity 8+, the Second Varsity 8+ and the Varsity Pair. The Varsity Pair and the Second Varsity 8+ races will each feature 22 boats, while 38 entries will square off in the Varsity 8+ competition.
Last year, TU participated in nine races and came away with second-place performances in the Novice 4+ heat and the Varsity 8+ Repechage.
