May 29, 2013
Tulsa, Oklahoma - Tulsa rower Amy Nelson was named to the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) South All-Region second team, as announced today by the same publication. Nelson is TU's ninth all-region honoree since 2000.
Nelson, a junior from Elm Grove, Wis., has been a member of the Varsity 8+ the last three years and has TU's fastest erg time of 6:55. She has participated in every regatta this season, helping the Varsity 8+ post wins over Central Oklahoma (OU Invitational), Kansas State and UCF (Longhorn Invitational), SMU (Lawless Cup), Sacramento State and Kansas (Lake Natoma Invitational), Creighton (duel) and Old Dominion, Alabama and SMU (Conference USA Championship). Nelson was invited to the GMS Under-23 development camp.
"Amy is entering her senior year at Tulsa and she is really a star athlete for us," Head Coach Kevin Harris said. "Every year she does something spectacular for our program and I am so happy that she earned this recognition. I am so proud of her and I am looking forward to her taking on an even bigger role as a senior leader next season."
This honor recognizes the outstanding performances of rowers and coxswains from each of the five regions, organized into first and second-team selections. Nominated student-athletes are evaluated on the strength of their team's regional finish, coaches recommendations and 2,000-meter erg score. Nominees must be eligible student-athletes who have competed in their teams' varsity boat in 75-percent of races this season.
