Pause at the Release: Thank You Parents

May 30, 2013

Tulsa, Oklahoma - Pause at the Release is our periodic feature in which we highlight the perspective of one of our student-athletes. In these articles, the athletes share their personal experiences as part of the Golden Hurricane team with our wonderful supporters and community members. Here, you'll find the backstage story on TU Women's Rowing, told through the eyes of the athletes themselves. Check back often to see updates from more of your favorite rowers and coxswains.

Pause at the Release: Thank You Parents

My teammates have come from so many different places to row for Tulsa so it makes it that much more meaningful that the parents also travel so far to support us. We want to thank our parents and the parents of our teammates for making each racing weekend as smooth as possible and for supporting us in our goals! This season we have been utterly overwhelmed by the support that the parents of the team have provided. At every regatta there has been a dedicated group of parents who are not only the loudest cheerers out there, but who also have gone above and beyond by providing meals, snacks and hugs for us, and generally helping ensure we are at our best to race. Tulsa truly has the best parents!" - Team Captains, Renee Vanasse, 2014 and Carly Schmidt, 2014

The parents did a wonderful job of providing a variety of fresh and delicious foods, which was something we all looked forward to eating between our races. They even did a really good job of providing gluten free options for those with wheat allergies. Thanks parents! - Ashley Lane, 2016

Being a competitive athlete requires a lot of hard work both on and off the water. It also requires the support and encouragement of our biggest fans - our family. The parents at our regattas this semester were incredible. Whether or not they were our own, they were very caring. They put a lot of time, energy and money into coming out and supporting us in any way they could. So thank you, to both my own family and my teammates' family. You are all truly inspiring!" - Emily Farrar, 2016

The parents were absolutely crucial at regattas. They were there to cheer us on at every race, home or away, rain or shine. I want to say thank you to each and every one of them for supporting us in the many ways that they did. - Liz Akin, 2016

We had a lot of parents come out to our conference championship and wanted to take the time to thank them for everything they did; from being on the sideline cheering our races to setting up our food for lunch in the hotel. We really appreciated all of the love and support they have shown us throughout the season. - Allyson Brooks, 2013

Having the parents at regattas is so awesome. They always do such a great job and are our biggest cheerleaders and support system. It's such a relief to come off the water and have an awesome lunch or just have someone to ask you how your row/race was and give you a hug. We love our Tulsa Rowing Parents! - Betsy Govig, 2016

"I love seeing the parents and the fans at all the regattas. When you hit that last 500, it's awesome to hear them cheering. A huge thanks goes out to all those who support Tulsa Rowing. We couldn't do it without them! - Hannah Emnett, 2016
