Tulsa Rowing Team Signs Six for 2005-06 CampaignJune 16, 2005 Tulsa, Oklahoma - Tulsa Head Women's Rowing Coach Kevin Harris announced today the signing of six student-athletes for the 2005-06 campaign. The six Golden Hurricane newcomers include Lindsey Bailey, Nicole Falvo, Meghan Dooley, Blake Martin, Laura Beth Minnich, and Elizabeth Peterson. With the addition of the two women who signed during the fall of 2004, these signings will bring the 2005-06 incoming class to seven rowers and two coxswains for the Golden Hurricane. A native of Everett, Wash., Bailey prepped at Lake Stevens High School and was a two-year member of the Everett Rowing Club. In 2005, she stroked the Second Varsity 8 to a medal at the Husky Invitational and a win at the Brentwood Regatta. Her older sister, junior Emily Bailey, is currently a stroke on the Varsity 8 at Tulsa. The younger Bailey intends to study nursing at TU. "Lindsey followed her sister to TU and I am excited that the Bailey family want both of their daughters here in Tulsa," Harris said. "Even though she has rowed for only a few years, she has improved enough that she moved between Everett's undefeated Varsity and Junior Varsity 8's all year. I think that she will bring a strong stroke to our program that will allow her to excel." Falvo is a coxswain from the Saratoga Rowing Association in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. She brings a wealth of experience to Tulsa, having coxed at the SRA for five years. In 2004, she led the Saratoga Lightweight Girl's 8 to wins at the Cincinnati Youth Invitational and the Scholastic Rowing Association National Championships. In 2005, her Lightweight 8 finished second at both the U.S. and Canadian Scholastic Championships. Falvo also holds the distinction of being the 2004 U.S. Junior National Team coxswain for the Women's 8. In August of 2004, she represented the United States in Banyoles, Spain, where her boat finished seventh in the world. She intends on studying Elementary Education at TU. Dooley, who was also a member of the Saratoga Rowing Association, attended Saratoga Springs High School, where she served as team captain. She was a three-year rower at SRA and was a member of the Varsity 8+ for three years. Her competitive successes include two appearances at the Cincinnati Youth Invitational and medals at the U.S. Scholastic Nationals and U.S. Rowing National Championships. Dooley also competed at the Head of the Charles and posted victories at numerous other scholastic races around the nation. "Nicole and Meghan are two great athletes. They have had wonderful coaching at Saratoga and it shows in their accomplishments. Also, the fact that the 2004 Junior National Team coxswain signed with Tulsa means that we are doing something right here. Both of these young women were heavily recruited throughout the country," Harris said. A native of Coppell, Texas, Martin comes to Tulsa with minimal rowing experience but a vast athletic background, including three years as a lacrosse player. A National Merit Scholar for the state of Texas, she will be joining the novice team at TU. Martin attended Coppell High School and intends on studying International Business at Tulsa. Minnich is a transfer rower from Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn., where she has rowed for two years for the club team at Rhodes College, and competed primarily in the Varsity 4+. During her prep career, Minnich was a competitive swimmer and honor student at Little Rock's (Ark.) Central High School. She intends to study exercise science at TU. Peterson is a rower from the Lincoln Park Rowing Club in Chicago, Ill. She brings only one year of rowing experience to TU, but her boats have been at the top of the Midwest Scholastics during the spring of 2005. She attended Lake Forrest High School. "Elizabeth, Laura Beth, and Blake were all pleasant surprises for our recruiting class. Elizabeth is a fantastic Chicago-area athlete, who I am sure is going to become a huge asset for our team in 2005-06. Although she only recently took up rowing, she has also been a successful diver, gymnast, and runner. Blake is a very talented all-around athlete who has fallen in love with Tulsa. She is also a great young woman who should develop into a very powerful rower. Laura Beth decided to transfer to TU from Division III Rhodes College in order to pursue her goal of being more competitive with her rowing in college," Harris said. "I am very pleased with the quality of young women who chose our program. It is a young class in terms of rowing experience, but has great athletic potential for our future. We have attracted women who have rowed at great programs and the experiences that these young women had at their respective clubs will only add to our team," Harris added.
