Tulsa, Oklahoma - Former Tulsa rower Michelle Sechser earned a US National Team berth for the 2014 Senior II World Championships, scheduled for August 24-31, in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
Sechser, who will be making her third appearance with the US National Team, will be competing in the Lightweight 2x with Devery Karz from Oregon State. The duo trains at the US Rowing Olympic Training Center in Oklahoma City, Okla.
"Michelle continues to inspire us all here at Tulsa," Head Coach Kevin Harris said. "She and Devery have made a great team and learned a lot this summer. I think they are at the top of their game for 2014 and are going to make the USA proud. Michelle has already done that for Tulsa and we can't wait to see how she does in Holland."
Sechser previously finished seventh in the world in the Lightweight 1x in Chungju, South Korea in 2013, and fourth in the world in the Lightweight 4x in Plovdiv, Bulgaria in 2012.
While at TU, Sechser helped win the Midwest Collegiate Championships twice during her career and she had multiple top-10 performances in various regattas including the Dad Vail and Head of the Charles. Sechser earned her bachelor's degree in business in 2008 and an MBA in 2010. She also won multiple scholar athlete awards. As a Graduate Assistant Coach, her 2009 Varsity 4+ won the Knecht Cup and finished second at SIRA.
