Rowing Opens Spring Season with Victories March 11, 2000 The University of Tulsa Crew picked up three victories in four races against Creighton for their first victory of the season. The Golden Hurricane used less than pefect conditions to ther advantage, picking up on victory by over 33-seconds. In the second Varsity 8's race, the Blue Jays edged the TU boat over the final 200 meters, for the win in a time of 6:12.7. In the premiere event, Tulsa hopped off the line to establish a dominate lead with in the first 500 meters of the race. The Hurricane went on to the decisive victory with a time of 5:51.0. Tulsa went for the sweep in the second Varsity 4's, as the battle was for second place. The Tulsa "A" boat won the race with a time of 6:01.0, as Creighton "A" barely beat the Tulsa "B" crew by less than a .5-second. Tulsa finally got its sweep in the first Varsity 4's, by taking control from the starting line. Both Tulsa teams battled each other the whole race, without a challenge from either Creighton boat. The TU "A" crew was able to pull ahead one final time with about 500 meters left in the race. The next home dual for the Golden Hurricane will be on Saturday, March 25 as TU hosts Kansas at Zink Lake.
