Tulsa, Oklahoma - The Tulsa rowing team will kick off the 2011 fall season this Saturday, Oct. 1st at the Head of the Oklahoma Regatta in Oklahoma City, Okla. Teams will compete in the 4,000-meter head race beginning at 11:00 a.m. The head race is also a qualifier for the 500-meter OG&E Night Sprints.

The Golden Hurricane will race in the Open 1x, Lightweight 1x, Open 2x, Lightweight 2x, Collegiate 4+, Novice 4+, Collegiate 8+ and Novice 8+ against Central Oklahoma, Iowa, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma City, SMU, Stanford, Texas and Wichita State.

"This race is a lot of fun," Head Coach Kevin Harris said. "The team is in a really good place. We are rowing well and covering some good distance in practice, and it is a good opportunity to go out and get the blades wet. The fall is just a chance to see where our training is, and if we can do well against our Conference USA foes, then that gives us confidence as we move forward with our training. The Night Sprints are always a lot of fun and we are just really ready to get out and compete."
