Tulsa Rowers Finish 30th at Head of the Charles
Oct. 26, 2000 Boston, Mass -- The University of Tulsa women's rowing team Varsity-8 boat placed 30th in a strong field of 57 boats at the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, Mass. The field consisted of the nation's top collegiate teams as well as several of the best international squads in what has become the biggest regatta in the world. Tulsa finished the race in a time of 18:01.88, while the University of Princeton clocked in at a winning time of 16:37.52. ASR Nereus and Deutscher Ruder, both international boats placed second and third, respectively. Rounding out the top-10 places were collegiate teams from: Michigan, Syracuse, Yale, Southern Cal, Wisconsin, Ohio State, and Iowa.
The Head of the Charles is one of the most intriguing races, as the
course includes six bridges to negotiate. The Charles travels do west, then
north, then west, then southeast and then southwest.
