Tulsa Rowers Face Tough Texas Competition at White Rock
Nov. 11, 2000
Tulsa, Okla.- - The University of Tulsa Women's Rowing team head to Dallas for the White Rock Invitational on Sunday, November 12th. This is the last fall regatta of the season. It is a pre-test for what things are to be expected of the squad come springtime.
SMU is the host team, while Texas and Tulsa, also, compete in the regatta. Fall races are run on the clock, however, this race we will run a head to head competition competing over the traditional spring race course distance of 2000 meters.
Texas has turned into a big rival for Tulsa. As last year was the first year the Tulsa rowers had beaten them on the race course, as the Hurricane did in several regattas. This fall the Longhorns have put together a fast line-up for the head races and have beaten Tulsa twice, in Boston and Iowa by 21 seconds each time. However, with a straightened course, Tulsa can narrow the gap significantly. SMU is in their second year as a varsity program, and are looking to establish themselves. They were off texas by 38 seconds last weekend. This is the first year Tulsa has been able to race the
varsity along with the novices, as SMU only had novices last year.
