Aug. 17, 2012
Tulsa, Oklahoma - The Tulsa women's soccer team started the season off with a 3-0 win over Weber State on Friday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. The Golden Hurricane moved to 1-0 on the season, while WSU fell to 0-1 overall. "I am very pleased with the way we played," Head Coach Kyle Cussen said. "We scored three goals in the first 15 minutes, and we played everybody in the second half. One of our goals is to get shutouts and so I am very pleased with our first two games and getting shutouts over Oklahoma in an exhibition game and then again tonight." Claire Nicholson scored the first goal of the season with just 5:35 ticked off the clock as she punched in a goal from the left side off a pass from Lindsay Kirch. Rebecca Handley recorded a goal just two minutes later with O'Brien and Claire Hulcer earning the assists. Handley scored again at the 15:42 mark with Hulcer on the assist. Tulsa had an 11-10 advantage in shots, including a 6-3 lead in shots on goal, and a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks. Hulcer and Handley both had three shots, while five others had one attempt. Katie Bykowski logged all 90 minutes in goal and picked up three saves. TU will return to action against Notre Dame on Friday, August 24th beginning at 7:30 pm at the Hurricane Stadium.
