Tulsa Earns 2-0 Victory Over UMKC for Tulsa Invitational Crown

Lauren King and Rachel Thun each netted a goal to give the Tulsa women's soccer team a 2-0 win over UMKC on Sunday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. With the win, the Golden Hurricane claimed the 2014 Holiday Inn City Center Tulsa Invitational title and moved to 4-0 on the season, the best start for TU since 1993. The Kangaroos fell to 1-2-1 overall.
King put Tulsa on the board with just 3:09 ticked off the clock as she punched one in from 12 yards out on the right side. This was King's second goal of the season and fourth of her career.
In the second half, Thun scored in the 59th minute off a penalty kick. This was Thun's third goal in just four games this season.
Tulsa had a 16-8 lead in shots, including a 9-3 advantage in shots on goal, and an 8-4 lead in corner kicks.
Thun had a team-best three shots, while King added two attempts and 11 others had one shot. Rebecca Defer logged all 90 minutes in goal and picked up three saves.
Tulsa will return to action against Central Arkansas on Friday, September 5th. Game time is set for 1:00 pm at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium.
