The Tulsa women's soccer team recorded a 3-0 shutout over UMKC on Sunday afternoon in the UMKC Invitational in Kansas City, Mo. TU moved to 5-2 on the season, while the Kangaroos fell to 2-3-2 on the year.

"I thought we played really well today," Head Coach Kyle Cussen said. "UMKC is a tough team to play at home, so to earn a 3-0 win was great. We came out with a lot of emotion and pressed them early from the start. I was really pleased with their efforts, especially after a tough loss on Friday. Katelynn Duncan got hurt in the first half, and with Rachel Garcia still out due to injury we played most of the game with two freshmen, Caitlin Jancuska and Roman Edwards, in the back. They did a great job and held UMKC to just three shots. I think at one point we had all six freshmen on the field, so it bodes well for our future and really shows our depth."

Lexis Learmonth gave the Golden Hurricane an early lead as she headed in a free ball that Claire Hulcer put into the box on a corner kick with just 5:32 ticked off the clock. Hulcer scored her own goal in the 38th minute to give TU a two-goal cushion heading into the break as she drilled in a shot from 25 yards out into the upper-left corner.

Alexa Sidorakis scored the third and final goal for Tulsa in the 78th minute as she punched in a goal with Claire Nicholson earning the assist.

Tulsa had a 9-3 advantage in shots, including a 7-0 lead in shots on goal, and a 2-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Nicholson, Lindsay Kirch and Emily Hahn each had a team-best two shots, while Learmonth, Hulcer and Sidorakis all scored their first goal of the season off their only shot against UMKC. TU now has 10 players that have scored goals this season.

Katie Bykowski logged all 90 minutes in goal for her 21st career shutout.

For their efforts in the tournament, Edwards, Hulcer and Learmonth were named to the UMKC Invitational All-Tournament Team.

Tulsa will return to action on Friday, September 14th as the Golden Hurricane hosts cross-town rival Oral Roberts. Game time is set for 7:30 pm at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium.
