Claire Nicholson and Camille Pelley each netted a goal, but it wasn't enough as the Tulsa women's soccer team dropped a 3-2 decision to 13th-ranked Penn State on Sunday afternoon at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. TU fell to 5-2 on the season, while PSU moved to 6-1-1 overall.

"Penn State came in as the #13 ranked team and I don't think they are over-ranked," Head Coach Kyle Cussen said. "Jim [Rhein] did a good job of reviewing tape and planning out what we were going to do today, and the girls executed it. We didn't sit back and hold off, we tried to play and go at them when we had opportunities. We were toe-to-toe with them until the last 20-seconds. The main thing is `Can we play at that level all the time?' and I believe we can. I felt like the girls played well today and played like we are capable of playing, so it is very encouraging to see."

Mallory Weber gave the Nittany Lions a 1-0 advantage as she headed in a goal from four yards out off a combination from Emily Hurd and Taylor Schram in the 23rd minute, and PSU took the lead into the break.

Nicholson knotted up the score as she drilled in a penalty kick at the 57:14 mark, but Tani Costa earned Penn State the go-ahead goal in the 74th minute off an assist from Hurd.

Pelley evened the score again as she tapped in goal from seven yards out off a combination from Lindsay Kirch to Kajal Parmar at the 85:28 mark, but with just 20-seconds left to play in regulation Maya Hayes scored from 15 yards out off a pass from Schram to win the game for the Nittany Lions.

Kirch led TU with three shots, while Pelley had two attempts and six others took one shot for the Hurricane. Hayley Harryman logged all 90 minutes between the posts and earned four saves.

Tulsa will return to action on Friday, Sept. 20th against Cal State-Northridge. Game time is set for 9:30 pm Central in Northridge, California.
