Tulsa Women's Soccer Team Drops 1-0 Decision to Rice
Sept. 21, 2012
Houston, Texas -
The Tulsa women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Rice on Friday night at Rice Soccer Stadium in Houston, Texas. TU fell to 5-3-1 on the season and 0-1 in Conference USA, while the Owls moved to 4-4-2 overall and 1-0 in the league.
"We knew it was going to be an intense game from the start," Head Coach Kyle Cussen said. "We gave up an early goal, which was one thing we were leery of in this game, but I thought after they scored their goal we created a couple good chances. We played really well in the second half with several great chances to score, but we just couldn't put one into the net. Now we have to fight back and get ready for Sunday. There are 10 more games in conference play so we have to not let this one haunt us."
Holly Hargreaves scored the lone goal of the contest as she punched in a rebound goal at the 5:47 mark for the game-winner.
Claire Hulcer had two shots in the contest, while Camille Pelley, Stephanie Aitken, Lexis Learmonth and Katy Riojas all had one attempt. Katie Bykowski logged all 90 minutes in goal and picked up 10 saves.
Rice had a 23-6 lead in shots, including all 11 shots on goal, while both teams had six corner kicks.
Tulsa will return to action on Sunday, Sept. 23rd against Houston beginning at 1:00 pm in Houston, Texas.
