Tulsa Trio Lead Hurricane to 3-0 Win Over LA Tech in C-USA Opener
Sept. 27, 2013
Tulsa, Oklahoma -
Bradi Hinch, Roman Edwards and Claire Nicholson all scored a goal to lead Tulsa to a 3-0 win over LA Tech in the Conference USA opener on Friday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. TU moved to 7-3 on the season and 1-0 in Conference USA, while the Lady Techsters fell to 5-5-1 overall and 0-1 in the league.
"I thought we were a little sluggish coming out, but I think that was due to first game jitters in conference," Head Coach Kyle Cussen said. "I know we have played nine games already, but there is that added element to conference and wanting to get off to a good start. I thought we picked it up towards the middle half and then just stayed on top of it. We could have been sharper tonight, but we'll take any win in conference."
Hinch put the Golden Hurricane on the board with just 5:55 ticked off the clock as she drilled in a penalty kick for her sixth goal of the season. Edwards gave TU a two-goal cushion in the 33rd minute as she punched in a goal from 25 yards out into the upper left-hand corner of the net.
Nicholson added the final score at the 62:50 mark off a pass from Lindsay Kirch from nine yards out.
Kirch had a team-best four shots, three of which were on goal, while Edwards and Lauren King had two attempts. Hayley Harryman played all 90 minutes between the posts, earned two saves and picked up her fifth shutout on the year.
TU had a 13-6 lead in shots, including an 8-2 advantage in shots on goal, and a 5-1 lead in corner kicks.
Tulsa will return to action on Sunday, Sept. 29th against Florida Atlantic. Game time is set for 1:00 pm at the Hurricane Stadium.
