Tulsa Women's Soccer Team Tops Miners, 2-1
Sept. 30, 2012
Tulsa, Oklahoma -
Camille Pelley and Claire Hulcer each tallied a goal to lead Tulsa to a 2-1 win over UTEP on Sunday afternoon at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. TU moved to 6-4-2 on the season and picked up their first league win of the year to move to 1-2-1 in Conference USA, while UTEP fell to 7-6 overall and 0-4 in the league.
"It is good to get a win," Head Coach Kyle Cussen said. "I am really proud of the girls' effort today. They fought hard. Scoring that early goal really relieved a lot of tension. We are finally getting our kids back and healthy, so it was good to get a home win. UTEP plays hard for 90 minutes and we knew that it is always a battle, so we knew when we were up 2-0 at halftime the game wasn't over. We kept possession and did what we were suppose to be doing, and we came away with the win."
Pelley netted her third goal on the season with just 3:19 ticked off the clock as she threaded the ball through the left side into the right bottom corner off a combination from Claire Nicholson and Jordan O'Brien. Hulcer gave the Hurricane a two-goal cushion as she drilled in a free kick from 20 yards out into the center of the net.
Tess Hall put the Miners on the board in the 53rd minute as she scored off a free kick from 22 yards out, but Tulsa held on to the one goal lead for the win.
UTEP had a 19-11 lead in shots, including an 11-4 advantage in shots on goal, and a 6-1 lead in corner kicks.
Tulsa will return to action against UCF on Friday, October 5th in Orlando, Fla.
