Tulsa Women's Soccer Team Falls to East Carolina, 2-1
Oct. 3, 2010 Cary, N.C. - Claire Nicholson scored the lone goal for Tulsa on Sunday afternoon, but it wasn't enough as the Golden Hurricane dropped a 2-1 decision to East Carolina at the WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. TU fell to 5-7 on the season and 0-4 in Conference USA, while the Pirates moved to 7-5 overall and 2-2 in the league. "I thought we played really well today," Head Coach Kyle Cussen said. "We had the better of possession and created some good opportunities to score. The girls did everything we asked them to doo, but we just didn't get the win. They played with a lot of intensity, were sharp and I think this is one of the best Sunday games we've played all season. I am proud of our effort and style of play, but am disappointed with the result." Kimmy Cummings put ECU on the board as she scored off a pass from Jessica Woodward from 27 yards out in the 19th minute. The Pirates maintained their lead until Nicholson drilled in a goal off an assist from Claire Hulcer in the 47th minute to tie the contest, 1-1. Bailey Wilcox scored the game-winning goal just three minutes later as she capitalized on a combination from Tricia Tufts to Woodward and then headed in the ball. East Carolina had an 11-8 advantage in shots, but both teams had six shots on goal, and Tulsa edged ECU, 5-4, in corner kicks. The Golden Hurricane will return to action on Friday, Oct. 8th against Colorado College. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium on the TU campus.
