Hurricane Ties School Shutout Record in 1-0 Win Over East Carolina
Oct. 14, 2011
Tulsa, Oklahoma - The Tulsa women's soccer team picked up its 10th shutout of the season, tying the school record set back in 1992, with a 1-0 win over East Carolina on Friday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. The Golden Hurricane moved to 9-5-2 on the season and 3-3-1 in Conference USA, while the Pirates fell to 6-6-1 overall and 1-5 in the league. "I was proud of the fact that we found a way to win," Head Coach Kyle Cussen said. "Miranda's goal was a good individual effort. She hit the ball well and with a lot of power. There were times that we were good as a team tonight, but I most proud of our 10th shutout. If you look at the entire season, even with four games left, to have 10 shutouts says a lot about our team. We need to be sharper on Sunday, but if we play with the same intensity as we did tonight we will have a good result." Miranda Zoller scored the game-winning goal in the 41st minute from 20 yards out on the right side. This was Zoller's first career goal. Claire Hulcer had a team-leading three shots, while Jordan O'Brien and Lindsay Kirch each had two attempts. Katie Bykowski logged 90 minutes in goal and picked up three saves and the shutout. TU had a 10-7 lead in shots, including a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal, and owned a 4-1 lead in corner kicks. Tulsa will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 16th against Marshall. Game time is set for 1:00 pm at the Hurricane Stadium. Scoring Summary Tulsa 1 0 - 1 ECU 0 0 - 0
